Weekly Recap: 9/5 – 9/11

We’re all pretty stoked about the new iPhone and the NFL season kicking off, but we have to admit the smoke and ash from the Rough Fire has been the worst part of the week. Don’t worry, it won’t keep us from sharing our favorite headlines of the week!

Late night television has a new face and he’s finally made his debut! On Tuesday, Stephen Colbert assumed his role as host of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, following in the footsteps of David Letterman. It’s left a lot of people wondering if he will be able to shed the comedic character he played while host of The Colbert Report. We can’t wait to find out! iphoneApple debuts the new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus

You guys, they’re making a PINK iPhone. Okay, it’s technically “rose gold,” but come on, it’s pink. For those of you not so impressed with the additional color, that’s okay, too. Apple bumped the back camera up to 12 megapixels which now will allow you to record in 4K. We’re loving the new 3D Touch feature, too. As if we needed any more shortcuts, you can now use 3D touch to pull up screen menus and create shortcuts. If you plan on upgrading, be sure to let us know your thoughts on the new iPhone in the comments!

Screen Shot 2015-09-11 at 10.52.02 AMFacebook tries out new live-streaming app with verified users

To be completely honest, I had no idea that Facebook had its own live-streaming app. If you didn’t either, you’re not alone. The app, Mentions, at one point was only available for celebrities. This week they’ve opened it up to all verified users. The allure of only influencers being able to live stream is interesting, but for now I’m not buying it. I’ll just continue to cheer on Periscope, because it’s awesome and EVERYONE can use it.

New-England-Patriots1-913x512NFL season starts with even more drama

Don’t be surprised if this season it becomes wildly popular to accuse the New England Patriots of cheating every single week. Who knows, maybe they really are cheaters or maybe there are just a lot of coincidences. It’s not my job to judge. I’m just wildly happy that football is back. My team may not be contenders for the Super Bowl this year, but I’ve missed spending Sundays with family and friends sitting around the TV. Baseball just doesn’t cut it sometimes.

Screen Shot 2015-09-11 at 10.58.51 AMRough Fire grows to over 100,000 acres burned

We couldn’t ignore discussing the Rough Fire, because it has impacted everyone in the Central Valley. Our air quality has been in the dumps, mandatory evacuations have been made, and the historic Giant Sequoias are getting extra protection. To put it into perspective, these trees are over 1,000 years old and it would be devastating to lose them. We’re thankful to have the best firefighters in the business working day and night to save the trees and homes in the area. For our friends in Fresno, remember to keep your activity low due to the poor air quality.
