Weekly Recap: 7/11 – 7/17

Wow, what a week! Where do we even begin? McDonald’s is breaking into the musical game, Amazon’s Prime Day was just ‘eh,’ and former-planet Pluto finally got the spotlight (for a good reason!) It was a pretty good week, so let us break it down for you in our Weekly Recap.

‘Prime Day’ backlash

What was meant to be a goodhearted attempt to bring a Black Friday-like shopping event in July, transformed into a day dedicated to hating on Amazon. Oops. People weren’t quite as hyped about the deals on social media. Hashtags like #UnhappyPrimeDay, #AmazonFail, #Primedayfail and #AmazonSucks came to life. Good news for Amazon, reports show that sales exceeded 2014 Black Friday sales. We didn’t really do too much shopping ourselves, but it was nice knowing deals were there.

Smile, Pluto! We finally got your picture!

All we’ve ever known Pluto to be is just a blurry smudge. It’s easy to take away planetary status from something we’ve never fully seen, but now we know exactly what it looks like up close. Isn’t it amazing! NASA was also able to snap some shots of Charon, Pluto’s moon. Do us all a favor and sign the petition to have Pluto reinstated as a planet. It’s the right thing to do.

Google tries out ‘buy now’ button

Ready for more Google in your life? If you answered no, then sorry, because Google is now testing out a “buy now” button on mobile. I am all about this. Google’s shopping search feature is one of my faves for all of the obvious reasons, but adding a button that I can buy it right there…I’m so down. Retailers will pay to utilize this service, but Google won’t be making money off of the transaction. Thumbs up!

Place your bets — Emmy nominations have been released

Way to go, Game of Thrones, for smashing the competition and picking up 24 nominations. Which, for the record, we did question if that many nods were even possible (don’t worry, it is). Glad to see lots of love for Orange is the New Black, but a little sad to find Broad City missing from the list. Tune in or set your DVRs on Sept. 20 on Fox.

McDonald’s the Musical…WHY?

Alright, so the combination of McDonald’s and musical never really should run in the same sentence, but yet here we are. McDonald’s new “A Little Lovin'” is a three-minute bachata musical put together to target Hispanic millennials. It’s over the top and you may not have the words to describe how you feel about it. We understand. Find out for yourself and watch it here.
