Thursday Tell Alls

It’s time for the Thursday Tell All! Get the inside scoop on all things JP! We’re talking to graphic designers, account managers, vendors and this week, a client!

Tom De Lany, from All Commercial Landscape, has been working with us since January 2011, and we just learned that he is the least picky eater in the universe. Sometimes he talks in circles, but we admire how much he loves his family!

What is your greatest accomplishment?
Inventing a system that cuts water use in turf by 50% and raising my seven-year-old grandson Javin; he keeps me young.

What’s the best thing you’ve ever eaten?
Everything that comes out of a clean kitchen, hot or cold!

What is your most embarrassing memory at work?
My first and last day as a Kirby vacuum senior account manager.

What is your best piece of advice?
Your body and brain were designed by thousands of iterations to hunt, fight, swim, climb, love, hate, think logically, act with empathy, and build a better world for yourselves and others. Your grandfather, his grandfather and so on for time immemorial worked to bring humanity to where it is today, and you have an obligation to use what they gave you to continue what they started. Never ever quit.

What song would you choose to describe yourself?
Johnny’s Garden by Stephen Stills on Manassas. I live there!…(Shaver Lake)… speakers up!

What superpower would you like to have?
I have them all, but left the best ones in a paper bag along with my brain near a stream high in the Sierras in about 1968. So I guess the power to find where in the hell I left my keys in my final answer!

Who or what inspires you the most?
My wife of 41 years, everyday and in every way. She is the most wonderful, beautiful and intelligent woman I have ever met and I have been continually perplexed as to how she puts up with me.

How did you choose your profession?
Thirty-seven years ago, I started a landscape company with the idea that I would do this until I figured out what I wanted to do with my life. Life takes more figuring than I figured on?

What’s the best investment you’ve ever made?
Friends and family, they are priceless.

What book could you never put down?
I have a book that lists Medal of Honor recipients and I am continually humbled by the selfless acts of these very fine people.
Tom drew us this uncanny self-portrait in less than a minute, and all we can do is admire those unbelievable long arms and spiked hair straight out of an episode of Jersey Shore.
