Thursday Tell Alls

Thursday Tell Alls is back! We’re bringing you the inside scoop of JP, from graphic designers to account managers and clients!

This week is featuring a client for the first time! Since January 2011, we’ve been working with Roger Lee, Executive Director of Brand, Media & Creative of Kaplan University, and have learned more about him through these 10 questions than in the last 20 months!

What is your greatest accomplishment?
My children. Part of “greatest” is that they are works in progress, but nothing helps me become a better person more than being a parent.

What’s the best thing you’ve ever eaten?
Pan-seared Foie Gras

Tell us your most embarrassing moment at work.
There are so many, it’s hard to pick just one. Perhaps the most famous was putting someone on stage in a slightly too tight spandex superhero costume for a company-wide roadshow and not realizing what that would reveal in IMAG on a 30 foot screen…

What is your best piece of advice?
Add value to everything you touch

What song would you say describes you best?
That changes often. Right now it’s White Knuckles by OK Go. Ask me in a month and it will be different.

What superpower would you like to have?
This question totally outs me as a geek. My favorite show right now is Alphas. The underlying message there is that the truly interesting powers tend to alienate you from the rest of humanity… So you have to be careful what you pick. I think I would choose access to the universal unconscious so that I could get the skills I need in any given situation … I could become Warren Buffet in a negotiation or Vin Diesel in a bar fight.

Who or what inspires you most?
When everyday people rise above circumstance to achieve the extraordinary. The clichéd, dramatic example would be passengers that stop hijackers… But really it’s the little things, people that “pay it forward,” and, frankly, our students. The people who have been told for their entire lives that they can’t be successful and then come to school and do it anyway.

How did you choose this profession?
I really feel this profession chose me. I just don’t think I’m good at anything else.

What is the best investment you’ve ever made?
My education.

What book could you never get sick of reading?
None (not counting children’s books). I read all the time; however there are very few books I’ve read more than once and even then it’s been 10 or more years between readings.

Roger took one minute to draw this self-portrait masterpiece. He has very blue eyes and six strands of hair. You may not believe us, but those six strands look like a whole lot more in person!
